Harry was the first concert I ever attended. It was my junior year in HS and I took my first real girlfriend to his show at Brooklyn College. This was 1973 and the show blew me away even though we had seats way in the back upstairs. I felt a connection with Harry as if he were performing in a small intimate setting. It was Great I saw his shows many times after that and each was as good as the first. In particular was the free concert in Prospect Park what a feeling of citizenship as we cleaned up the park after the show. the shows were always a feel good event which sent me home with a great sense of how he seemed to enjoy the show as much as I did. His shows bring back great memories and I always smile when I hear his Music Danny Boylan

He deserved far more recognition than he ever recieved in his life time. Harry, I still love you. And always will. See you in the other world. jlilypad1956

DEAR, HARRY My name is Jim Glazier, from 4308 42 AVE. #20 Rock MTN.. House Alberta, Canada . And I need the help of someone with great influence over people and the resources to convince people they can protect there property. I am not trying to get a hand out, but perhaps some kind of business venture where we both can make money. I have been interested in vehicle security since 1997. I get sick when I hear of peoples property stolen , damaged , and even lives lost from such a preventable problem as car theft. I have looked at many vehicle security devices and there weakness, and endeavored to build a device that is easy to install and also user friendly, and very difficult to remove. I have built prototypes, and have used one on my vehicle for three years even in big cities, and always felt comfortable that my car would always be there where I parked it. I also installed one on an old truck in an auto wreaker and it took three big men 4min. 56 seconds to remove it, only by braking the floorboard because of too ridged a base. This has since been redesigned to be flexible. It was encouraging to see one person could not remove it. It is loose enough installed, that it cannot be cut with a hacksaw, since it is made with good strong steel. The lock cannot be frozen because it is incased with steel and a small air space. These men ! tried with hammers and feet to remove it and only exhausted themselves. Since joy rides and theft of vehicles for the purpose of committing a crime are the main reasons for general auto theft, I know this will be a very good and secure type of vehicle theft deterrent. I have a U.S. patent and applied for an international patent with the help of a company in Ireland, who have done up for me a confidential research report, on North America, and Europe and are at this time trying to find manufactures all around the world that would be interested in building this device that I call "Brake Lock. There is some simple electronics that serve as a trade mark, as well as takes care of the brake light problem. I recently have had interest from England and Illinois and hope to get a positive response from them. Auto theft is a huge problem everywhere. I know it will make a difference. But it will only make a difference if people will use it. If I could give you more information that might convince you, perhaps you may be interested in being a part of this venture. .P lease, if you want more information or have questions please get in touch with me at my E-Mail address ( cadillacjim @msn.com) Thank you, I look forward to hearing from you . The Summer of '81 is forever marked for me by news of the death of Harry Chapin. I was introduced to him by my parents, and saw him for the first time, July 16th, 1977, at Alpine Valley, WI. I was all of fifteen years old. I saw him in concert six times, in all, the last being as a college student, and just a few months before his demise.
I recently rediscovered the ticket from that first concert, signed by Harry on the back, like much of the memorabilia I took from those concerts. I had it framed, along with the Carnegie Hall tribute poster commissioned by Garry Trudeau. Also framed is one of the bronze coins signifying his posthumous receipt of the Medal of Congress.
I remember a friend of my parents writing a poem about his life, and death. I don't remember much about the poem, but I do remember the titles of many of his songs I loved so, written in a "circle" at the bottom of the paper. In the circle were written the words "he sang the music of our souls."
God bless you, Harry Chapin.

His songs touched me and I was a teenager in the 70's. I was just starting my songwriting back then and his songs stuck in my head. I really liked his kind of music, I could hear and almost feel the words and that was the kind of music I wanted to write. I only wish I could have met him. But in a way, he's here with me when I play his records.

Twenty years after his death and only now the lyrics I heard in the back seat from the AM radio of my father's car, come streaming back to me? Memories of fragmented one line melodies formed into a thread verified by internet sites that name an artist ..a Harry Chapin? Why now? Lyrics from a man dead 20 years written 30 years ago? Maybe we share a time of life, and meanings and stories never do die...do they?

In my family Harry is not only great musician who's songs are wonderful but they are a great way for my children to honor the memory of their Grandfather who shared our passion for Harrys great music! I can't remember how old I was when I first heard "taxi" but I know that I was just a kid.I loved it then because it was one of the first songs I couldn't wait to hear again and again. Being a kid I never knew who sang it, until I was about seventeen and a teacher I had played the album "Greatest Stories Live" did I finally know who sang it. Well I purchased that album immediately and listened to it non stop. When Harry died I was sad then and I'm sad now.He was a great inspiration to me then and I still get inspired every time I hear him sing now. I only wish I had seen him in concert. I have watched his story on vh1's "behind the music" as many times as it's been on, in fact it was the first "behind the music" documentary I had ever seen.Every time I see it I cry because he truely was a great human being and we have lost so much. I thank God there was a man named Harry Chapin for me to discover and forever enjoy and admire.

Harry died exactly 1 month after I was born. I didn't even know of his existance until about a year ago. I am now a college student at Cornell University, the school he attended. It is an honor and a privilage to attend a university with such talented, kind, and amazing alumni as Harry. Though only a recent fan, his songs touch my heart and inspire me to go on to a life of duty to others.

His writing and real world experiences are as vivid and real as they were the day he sang them. Only Jim Croce was able to approach the feeling I get, when I listen to his artistry and talent shine through on my sonic reproduction (time machine if you will) system.

I first encountered Harry Chapin's songs when I was a wee lad at summer camp. As I grew older and began to understand the deeper meanings behind his songs, they touched me more and more. How would he have reacted to the increased globalization and technological advances of today's society? I wish we could know. z"l Harry.

Anyone who ever met Harry Chapin certainly knows that the whole world is missing someone vital. He spoke up and made the world think about others...he gave us more heart and a conscience. I miss Harry as if he was a close friend...which in many ways he was.

I owe Harry a lot.. Harry, you opened my eyes and inspired me in ways I can't even begin to contemplate. By far my all time #1 favorite musician, you've also helped me see the social side of the issues of today. Have no fear... you matterred!!! I thank you for your gifts. Even though I never met ya, through your music I feel like I know you. Thank you!

Harry, I was honored to see you perform live several times. We met, talked briefly you took my hand and kissed my check, in that gentle Harry Chapin way. I think that touch was my inspiration to take up the fight against hunger and homelessness, a cause that I have been active in for over eight years. Harry thank you - and God bless you. Whenever I play your music you're still alive in my heart. meg280z@aol.com

I saw a bit of the Harry Chapin story on VH1 (usa cable TV channel) the other day and it reminded me of how much I miss Harry. I saw him perform a few times and it always felt like he was sitting in my living room.
Harry, you made some great music and moved a lot of people in your all too short time on this earth!

Harry, I've been a disciple for ~ 20 years I started listening when I was just a kid, Well I'm 33 years old now,you know "the age that Mozart died ,and sweet Jesus was set free" and not a day goes by that one of your songs doesn't pass through my head Thank you so much for all of the music. I have two boys ages 6 and 11 and just thought I'd let you know that they are both big Fans It's really a neat thing for me and the boys to go driving down the road singin' "Stranger with the melodies" or "The Rock" your music has created a special bond between me and my sons and for this I will Always be grateful. Thank you Again Harry I sure miss you...
